Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was one of two resorts that opened in 1971 with the Magic Kingdom. When you arrive at the resort, you are welcomed with a traditional Lei. The spirit of ‘ohana is everywhere from your “cousins” checking you in, feasting with family at one of the many restaurant locations, going to an old friend’s local bar, Trader Sams Grog Grotto, or relaxing with fellow guests in the Great Ceremonial House. Newly renovated, the Great Ceremonial House is the heart of the resort. Shops, dining, Dole Whips and even the Monorail are all centrally located to the Great Ceremonial House.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is divided in to several longhouses. Each one is uniquely decorated and named for an island in the South Pacific. The longhouses are all positioned in such a way that most have amazing views. Even some standard rooms actually have lagoon views! Hosting only 847 rooms, this resort, although spacious, is ideal for families that want a great location for each price point. The only choice to make is the view! Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort offers rooms with two queen sized beds and one day bed. All rooms sleep up to five adults. You can choose from a Standard View (views of garden, pool, marina, monorail or parking area), a Lagoon View (views of Seven Seas Lagoon) or Theme Park View (views of Magic Kingdom Park and Seven Seas Lagoon). Polynesian themed décor continue the feeling of the South Pacific. Flat screen TVs, ample storage, spacious bathrooms and a patio or balcony (in most) provide all the comforts of home.
Club level rooms are also available at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Guests can select a Garden View, Lagoon View, Theme Park View or a One Bedroom Suite. Club level guests enjoy evening turndown service, access to the club-level lounge which serves refreshments including select beers and wines (complimentary for club level resort guests) and access to Concierge service at the King Kamehameha Club.
Dining
When you want a quick start to your day, stop by Captain Cook’s. This quick service location is open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snacks. You can start your day with a classic Mickey waffle or the beloved Tonga Toast. Later in the day, make sure to stop by for the Pulled Pork Nachos, sandwiches, salads or flatbreads. Beer and wine are also available. There is a wide variety of snack options to choose from. The refillable mug location is also located at Captain Cook’s.
Before you head out to the parks make sure to stop at Kona Island. Just steps away from the monorail, you will find some of the best coffee in the “world”. At this location, you can enjoy coffee direct from the islands. You can also get a quick snack or even sushi later in the day.
The Kona Café is a favorite for most guest as it provides an amazing meal in a relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy the views of the Great Ceremonial House while enjoying island favorites such as macadamia-pineapple pancakes, Tonga Toast, teriyaki steak, sandwiches and even sushi. Kona Café is an excellent choice for a table service meal while visiting the Magic Kingdom. It’s a great way to start your day or as a break in your busy day.
Join Lilo, Stitch and friends for Best Friends Breakfast at Ohana. Ohana means family so at Ohana, you eat family style! Enjoy delicious American style breakfast with Polynesian influences. Hawaiian pork sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes and fruit are a few of the selections you will enjoy while meeting some of your favorite characters. Later in the day, you will hear the sound of a conch shell calling you for dinner. If you arrive a little early, make sure to stop in Tambu Lounge for drinks and appetizers. Feast on grilled meats, dumplings, salads and noodles. Make sure to bring your appetite as this dinner is all you can eat. Throughout dinner, enjoy the true spirit of Ohana with family games such as coconut races, hula hoops or even learning the Hookie Lau. You can even enjoy Happily Ever Afterfrom the comfort of your table. The lights will lower and the music begins making you feel as though the stage has been set just for you. It truly is magical and one of the best locations to view Happily Ever After.
Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show is held in Luau Cove on select nights. Enjoy the dancers from the South Pacific, drummers and a fire and knife performance that is sure to impress and entertain your entire family. During the show, you will enjoy all you care to eat BBQ ribs, pulled pork, roast chicken, vegetables, salad and delicious pineapple-coconut bread. For adults 21 and over, select beers and wines are also included. Children’s favorite items are also available upon request
By now I’m sure you’ve either had a Dole Whip or heard of a Dole Whip. There are only a few locations at the Walt Disney World Resort that you can get a Dole Whip. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is one of those locations! Located right outside the Great Ceremonial House, you will find the Pineapple Lanai. A Dole Whip is often described as island sunshine! It is simple amazing! You can enjoy soft serve and floats at this location. It the perfect end to a perfect day when you have your Dole Whip while watching Happily Ever After from this amazing resort.
RECREATION
Disney’s Polynesian Resort has several bars and lounges where you can relax after a fun filled day at the parks. Tambu Lounge – Great Ceremonial House is located next to Ohana, Barefoot Pool Bar which boasts amazing views of Cinderella’s Castle, and the Oasis Bar and Grill which is conveniently located poolside. Enjoy favorite drinks from the islands as well as a full bar menu. Do you want to go to visit an old friend? Do you remember Trader Sam, the “head” salesman from The Jungle Cruise? He has some fun in store for you. Visit Trader Sams Grog Grotto for adventurous drinks and eats. Children are not allowed inside after 8:00pm.
There are so many wonderful things about staying at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Quite possibly one of the best things is the amazing Lava Pool! This pool has a beach entry which is great for your little ones to play. Feeling a little adventurous? Climb to the top of the volcano for a ride down the 142 foot slide. There is also a water playground, Kiki Tiki’s Splash Play Area, for the children which includes several slides. While you are enjoying the amazing water activities, you have a breathtaking view of Cinderella’s Castle at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. What could be better?
Disney’s Polynesian Resort is also home to motorized water sports, fishing, volleyball and a jogging trail. If you want to relax, make sure to visit the Oasis Pool. This is a considered a “quiet pool” as there are no slides or children’s play areas.

BouTiki, located on the main level of the Great Ceremonial House, is the largest store and carries, pins, clothing such as Tommy Bahama, Quicksilver as well as character inspired clothing. Remember the amazing Kona Coffee you’ve been enjoying all week from Kona Island? You can get a bag to take home here! One the second floor near the monorail, you will find Moana Merchantile. There is a pin trading station as well as Disney Character items and toys. There is also a small grocery store where you can buy the essentials as well as select beer, wine and liquors.
At night, join family and friends for a campfire, watch an outdoor movie, sit on the beach and watch the Electrical Water Pageant and of course, watch Happily Ever After from the best location at the Walt Disney World Resort.
